Kia ora, and welcome to Pūmanawa. I’m Jade, the heart behind Pūmanawa Traditional Healing. Its about that time for me to re-introduce myself and share a little about my story—how my clinic space came to life from a deeply personal journey of reconnection with culture and the natural world.

A Personal Journey Through Health and Culture

Ten years ago, after my daughters birth, I faced serious health challenges that left me feeling disconnected from myself and my roots, During that challenging time, I began learning and exploring tikanga and mātauranga Māori. This reconnection wasn’t just about language or customs; it became a lifeline. It helped me find strength and purpose when I needed it most. It re-connected me to the environment and the natural world we live in.

Through this journey, I discovered Romiromi and mirimiri, a traditional Māori healing practice. These modalities became a path to restore balance in my life. It taught me how to listen deeply to my body and wairua, and how to hold space for healing—not just for myself but for others.

The Birth of Pūmanawa

Pūmanawa was born from that quiet, intuitive spark inside - the inner guide and knowing that we all carry, but we often forget how to listen or trust it.

Pūmanawa is the natural instinct dwells within our Puku space, our intuition, our guiding compass and gift - its our "gut feeling" - the emotional heart of the gut, and it can mean to draw a long breath, our life force- Mauri. When we get lost out there in the big scary world we can always trust this space and let us guide us when everything else becomes loud.

This is not “work” for me, it’s a coming home to self. Every time I hold space with someone, it feels like an honor and a privilege- to be blessed to hold space for others and to be able to share the knowledge of our tūpuna, when so many who came before us were not able to.

Pūmanawa operates as a kōha clinic, which means we don’t fix prices for healing sessions. Instead, we trust in reciprocity of those who come through our doors and their willingness to invest in self.

To support the clinic , we recently developed a workshop that helps generate income to feed back in to the clinic space, and it’s become a new way to share.

My paid work mainly comes from running an Airbnb at home, which allows me to keep Pūmanawa passion focused and wairua guided. This setup lets me give back, share knowledge, and maintain a safe and reachable space for those seeking traditional healing without financial barriers.

Nature as a Partner in Healing

In my spare time, I rediscovered my love for the natural world. After years of being unwell and inactive, I started hiking, walking, and tramping in the ngahere—immersing myself in the lakes, rivers, and mountains. Nature became a huge part of my own healing process.

This connection to the environment is now woven into my healing practice. I believe that as we heal ourselves, we also heal Papātuānuku, Mother Earth. This relationship between personal wellbeing and the health of the land is central to Pūmanawa’s philosophy.

Sharing Knowledge and Building Connection

At Pūmanawa, we focus on sharing knowledge and building long-lasting tools for healing. This means staying connected—to ourselves, our community, and the whenua. The workshops we offer are designed to help people reconnect with their own inner wisdom and Te taiao ( the environment)

Moving Forward with Pūmanawa

Pūmanawa Traditional Healing is more than a practice—it’s a way of life that honors the wisdom of our ancestors and the power of the natural world. My hope is to continue growing this space where healing, culture, and nature come together.

If you feel drawn to reconnect with your roots, explore traditional healing, or simply find a safe place to heal, Pūmanawa welcomes you.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. I invite you to explore what healing looks like for you and to embrace the wisdom that lives within and around us all. Kia kaha, kia māia, kia manawanui—be strong, be brave, be steadfast.

Ngā Mihi whakawhetai,

Jade
